“Sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is Truth.” (John 17:17 ESV)
John, perhaps the disciple whom Jesus loves, understands God the Holy Spirit’s intention when He writes “Your Word is Truth.” John, God’s scribe, has heard Jesus proclaim that He is “the bread of Life” and “the Way and the Truth and the Life.” (John 6:35; 14:6, NIV) Jesus has told John and others that whoever believes on Him; i.e. eats and drinks of Him, shall never taste the sting of death, but rather consume the joy of everlasting life.
Jesus is bold in His assertion. He states “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9) “If you really know Me, you know My Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and do see Him.” (John 14:7)
John beautifully and urgently declares Jesus is the Word, writing:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was Life, and that Life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood (overcome) it.” (John 1:1-4)
God the Holy Spirit says, “Sanctify them in Your Truth.” Since Jesus is no longer physically walking this earth, the only place to find Him, i.e. Truth is in His Word. Given this, what are we to do?
Good morning, and thank you Patricia. Carley
Repent and ask for forgiveness if you are his elect. His sheep do hear his voice. That’s the truth in his Word. The blind cannot see or search for him unless he calls them. They love the darkness and their sins. They know nothing else and unless he draws them (compels them ,drags them) they will not come. We all were blind but, his mercy and grace to, repentance, salvation, sanctification, glorification saved us. I missed some steps in there but, you get the rest if you have been called. Amen, God had mercy on us, our King Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit to guide us…The Lord God’s Almighty Word The Bible…
Amen, Peace in Heaven. We, the elect of God, must feel — if we truly understand God’s grace — an overwhelming sense of gratitude as did David, a man after God’s own heart. How can we do anything that brings shame to our Lord? And if we do, then how can we go on merrily without repenting? Thanks for your comment! God bless! Carley
