“If We Love Together” ( 1 John 4: 11 – 12, WYC ) by Carley Evans

How is it a different translation of the same Word gives such a new perspective? A wonder! Here is the power of “loving together” — the unity of the Spirit and its collective ability to change the world. Perhaps “loving together” — once known as the “social gospel” — is now the focus of many churches — that is, the effort to change the world one person at a time, one community at a time through the power of “the charity of Him.” After all, “God dwells in us!”

We are incapable of seeing God, so we show our love for Him by loving each other — i.e. loving those we can see — and by “loving together” others who do not know God — yet!

“11 Ye most dear brethren, if God loved us, [and] we owe to love each other.

12 No man saw ever God; if we love together, God dwelleth in us, and the charity of him is perfect in us.”
